Periods 1 & 2 - New Vocab

Here are your new vocab words for Unit 3. Write them in your journals. On Friday, I will look in period 2's vocab journals. Period 1, hold off until after your vocab test. I will look at your journals on Monday.

Periods 3 & 5: Your homework is to do the next set of To Kill a Mockingbird questions and answers and make it into a COOL bookmark. It can be double-sided, foldable, brochure style, hand-written or typed, whatever. Just make it unique and include a graphic! Period 3 will do chapter 11; period 5 will do chapters 9 & 10 for next class. Questions are below:

Periods 1 & 2

JUNIORS~

On October 13th, all 10th graders will take the PSAT. We are encouraging 11th grade students to take the test as well; however, you must register for this test. There will be registration forms available during lunch from September 14th – September 21st, in the back of the cafeteria in the faculty lounge. BUT GUESS WHAT???? I have them for you, too! See me!

The test fee is $13.00, however, any 11th grader who receives free/reduced lunch may take it for free. There are only 200 fee waivers and they do go fast, so please sign up early.

Tenth graders DO NOT need to register, this is a mandatory test for you...and it's free. Registration only applies to 11th graders. Let me know if you have any questions.

Reading Schedule for Periods 1, 2, 3 & 5

Hi, guys and gals! It's time to begin our novel readings for the first quarter. Below is the reading schedule for both To Kill a Mockingbird (periods 3 & 5) and Iola Leroy, or Shadows Uplifted (periods 1 & 2). If you have your own copy, bring them this week. I will also bring in the ones I bought for you. Periods 4 & 6 - This is for you!

As you know, we've been discussing and reading stories revolving around the question, "When do you really know someone?" Your task for this post is to come up with one song that helps you answer that question, or one that sheds some light on your experiences with that question. In the post, I want you to list the song, the artist, as well as an explanation of how your song selection relates to our question. A quote from the song (a PROVE-IT sentence), as well as a CONNECT-IT sentence, will help in your explanation. Remember, names of songs go in quotation marks, artists' names are capitalized, and your "50 times" rules are in effect.

Here is a sample response:
My thoughts about really knowing someone is best expressed in "Everybody's Changing" by Keane. This song parallels the idea of knowing someone because I believe you NEVER really know a person because we're always changing and, hopefully, evolving. In the song, Keane croons, "I try to make a move just to stay in the game. I try to stay awake and remember my name. Everybody's changing and I don't feel the same." This supports the idea that people are like dynamic characters; they change. Whether that change is for better or worse, it's a challenge to REALLY know them because you, yourself, are changing and growing too.

Alright, my beautiful kids, enlighten me with your ideas. When we're done gathering all of your responses, I am going to make a special playlist for you on this blog with YOUR SELECTIONS!

Hello there, my beautiful children! Since we are on a paper shortage here at school, I need you to print these items at home and bring them to class.

Please click on the links to access the documents I need you to print (I will let you know when you have to read them, but feel free to get a head start):

Vocab & Testing Schedule 2010-2011

Welcome to C-Rod's DREAM TEAM

Forget Wade, Bosh and James! C-Rod's class is the TRUE DREAM TEAM!!!!

This school year is going to be an exciting SEASON of victories and triumphs, and I am honored to be your learning coach.

We are going to use this blog as part of our PLAY BOOK to better us as a TEAM! On this blog, you will find tips for homework and projects, extra credit assignments, recaps of activities, a list of upcoming assignments, videos and slideshows of our BEST PLAYS, among many other resources.

As your COACH, I expect my PLAYERS to view, learn from, and comment on our PLAY BOOK. I recommend that you look at our PLAY BOOK at least every other day.

Your first assignment is to create an ID and/or email account then post a comment. Your ID/Email MUST include your first name, only your last initial and your period number (Google e-mail is free, by the way). For example, a student named Christy Lopez in period 2 would have an ID/email of ChristyL2. This will help me identify you easier. If I have you for two classes, you only need to add one of the two period numbers, not both. I highly recommend that you ALL jot down your ID somewhere visible (maybe put it on a post-it note and stick it on your computer). You will need to use this every time you post.

Once you create your ID, comment under this post. I want a quick blurb on what you would like to see happen during our SEASON as the Dream Team. Please know that "doing nothing" and "sleeping" is not an ideal response. I promise you, that will never happen! I really would like to know what you want to get out of my class! Please remember that your comments should be mature, insightful, grammatically correct, and PG-rated!
